About me: Hi I'm Josh and this is my site www.Steel-Guitar-Mojo.com.
I grew up on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu, and lived there half my life before venturing to NYC to pursue a career in music.
I'm currently lucky enough to call myself a full-time professional musician, performing primarily on the ukulele and lap steel guitar, both as a soloist and arranger and with my HAWAIIAN DREAMS - Big Island Hawaiian Band in the New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and New England areas.
I came to this remarkable instrument called the lap steel guitar rather late in life, after studying and teaching the standard 6-string guitar for over 20 years.
I really attribute my ability to quickly grasp the steel guitar instrument from my knowledge of music theory, which I studied at the Aaron Copeland School of Music, which is the music school of the City Universtiy of New York at Queens College.
My teaching is backed up by conservatory level music theory, arranging, sight reading and harmony and counterpoint.
I set up this site to share the beauty of the lap steel guitar with the world, and use my teaching skills to share the knowledge and insights I've gained in my short time playing and professionally performing on this instrument.
I've had the pleasure of performing the lap steel guitar at remarkable events such as the Bette Midler Hulaween Party, which featured Crosby, Stills and Nash the year we played it, as well as venues like the Mohegan Sun Casino, Waldorf Astoria, and live on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Thanks so much for your support and I hope you continue to benefit from your experience here at Steel-Guitar-Mojo.com
