The Christmas Song For C6

The Christmas Song (also known as "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire") is available as TAB for C6 lap steel guitar below on this page.

This particular arrangement features some nice harmonized runs and a few challenging forward slants to make things interesting.

It's a bit of challenge with some of the forward and back slants happening so close to each other, but after making your way through the arrangement, and really mastering some of these moves, I think you'll find your slants and dexerity with your steel bar will have become much improved.

Some highlights of the piece are the G7+ chord you'll encounter in the fourth measure. We effectively execute this jazz harmony by conveniently stacking the g-natural under an e-flat (enharmonically a d-sharp, the augmented 5th of the chord G).

The other chord I'd like to point out is the EbMajor7 in the sixth measure, which is notated on the TAB as Eb7M (quirky GuitarPro TAB software glitch ; ) You may note that this chord is executed by strumming through the entire 10th fret--which if you know your C6 chords, you'll remember is where B-flat is located.

However, since the overall harmony of this section is E-flat, by strumming this chord we effectively create the sound of a EbMajor7, with the Major-9th (f-natural) added in for even more of a dense jazz texture! Sweet!

The video below shows a live solo peformance of this song using a 6 string console steel tuned to C6 (CEGACE), and for the most part it's a performance of the TAB that you'll find available for download below.

Hope you enjoy playing this piece as much as I do.
